When thinking about Xbox 360, 3 red lights, small as they might seem can turn out to
be a large problem that you have to deal with! These three red lights can be
something like a death knell for the avid gamer, and in general, you may find that
when these lights show up that you want to get them fixed as soon as possible.
Before you get out the postage, though, remember that you do have options beyond
sending it back to the company; sending it away can keep you away from your games for
three to four weeks, which can feel like an eternity. If you are looking at your
Xbox 360, 3 red lights are showing, and you don’t know what to do, there are a few
things that you should keep in mind.
The first thing that you have to be aware of is what those three simple red lights
signify. While it can mean that you are looking at an irreparable hardware failure,
you’ll find that for the most part, the situation is no where near that dire. You’ll
find that with just a little bit of work, you’ll be able to to figure out what can
fix this problem, what you can do about it, and when it would be better to simply
ship the device off to Microsoft.
First, make sure that the problem isn’t one that has an easy solution. Check your
power supply; whether the three red lights are on or not, you should see a green
light showing there. If the green light is not showing, you’ll know that there is a
problem at this location, rather than the Xbox itself. A red light here can mean
that there is a problem getting power from the external source, while an orange light
refers to something being unplugged, and no light at all means that the power supply
might be damaged.
Before you start trying to take a look at fixing the Xbox 360 3 red lights problem
yourself, you will want to keep in mind the fact that by opening your machine, you
are voiding your warranty. You run a risk of not being able to get the fixes that
you need, and unless you know what you are doing or are guided by some documentation,
you may simply want to send it into the company. One quick fix that is often used is
to replace the thermal pad inside your Xbox with a layer of thermal paste, which will
help keep the heat to a manageable level, but once again, remember that you will need
to feel comfortable doing so.
Make sure that you are aware of the risks before you open up your Xbox, and think
about what you need to understand before you do so!
